Blue Book - by Anna G.
Blue Book
by Anna G.
Innocent people being hooked on the blue book,
Becoming dull robots that speak in code;
It comes in your sleep taking your intellect like a crook,
By bribing you with a new mode.
To waste your brain cells, by taking a look;
At the new post and comment that just showed.
It's like you're hooked on the book,
With no time for the real me to tell you an ode.
About my handy dandy address book stuck in my nook,
And my letters that were sent with sticky money and a zip code,
That was how I used to communicate through my book.
Join my group while you're here, on the side road,
There is nothing to fear for my heart is a babbling brook.
I'll be here forever, to update my status in code
'cause that's what's on my mind. Now cook
A sammich for you and I, so we then can unload,
Our feelings and aspirations to the fake book with the timeline look.
For the world to read and become more node,
For once it was face to face, now it's face to book.
Death of a Flower - by Jessica C.
Death of a Flower
by Jessica C.
Flower's dust bears leaves of gray
As snow begins to fall
A solemn affair his death doth be
Though no one hears his call
He cries for the sun whose light has waned
To a scant imitation of a ray
When bright and warm it shall be again
Oh, how he longs for this day
For a day so distant, it is hard to hope
When winter's not yet begun
The frost not bitten, the trees not bare
But autumn as good as gone
The music of nature has lowered an octave
The wind has altered its tune
Only the shadow of a bird's merry song
Is heard in the light of the moon
Nature bleeds its river of color
Pigments disappear in the stream
The brilliance of yesterday not long past
Is diminished to that of a draem
A rotating earth shudders to a halt
Creatures become stagnant and still
Uneasy of tundra that is soon to approach
Despite their deepest will
Ignored too is the will of the flower
As the last petal abandons his mane
True love of the lovers cannot go on
With no gift to present the dame
His beauty lost, he cries once more
No breath of hope to be found
Flurries of ice claim the final kill
He is buried without a sound
Fear - by Sumbul S.
Fear
by Sumbul S.
My name is Fear.
I am hidden like the moon on a frigid, eerie night. The deepest darkest secret inside. I bring torture upon those who turn from me. I am comprised of many unique faces and personalities. Some ugly, black and red; others bright, sunny yellows and grassy greens. I approach when least anticipated; plodding, voiceless, ever-so-carefully like a predator and its prey. Always chasing you; there is no escaping. I am by your side, watching. I live in a dark dungeon with nothing but hope of my next victim.
Will it be you?
Gone - by Sumbul S.
Gone
by Sumbul S.
I didn't realize how much I care for you until you left.
I deeply miss you.
I took you for granted,
Thinking you'd stay.
We'll meet once more someday.
Happiness, like a mirror, staring back at you.
It never lasts long.
It was a peaceful darkness.
Sitting there with my family, on the welcoming couch,
Having an excellent time. A faultless summer evening.
It was the phone.
Its angry roar broke the delicate reflection.
Mom picked it up, readily speaking -
when her face turned grim I knew.
Dreading the truth
Memories.
My antipathy for them great.
They give rise to what used to be,
Bring anguish upon shattered souls,
And never regret.
Day by day bringing sorrow.
Though they're not alone,
Pictures are the wicked accomplice,
Making it agonizing to disregard. Conveying faulty messages
Smirking, holding hands.
I remember...
We used to smile and giggle.
You'd always bring me something extraordinary,
I neverk new you gave your final gift to give.
I know you suffered a lot in this world,
Thinking about you everyday,
I'll in no way forget you.
It took you from me,
Surging through your veins undetected.
A surprise attacker, I'm sure.
It struck when you least anticipated it,
Shocking us all,
Death.

Zombie Haikus
by Victoria F.
1. Flesh and blood waiting
yummy delights for us all
must wait till sundown
2. Back from death and dark
to feel my hunger gnawing
I need human blood
3. I scream in terror
They come for me in the night
there is no respite
4. The driving need kills
Not only me but humans
I cannot stop this
5. The grave comforts me
It is where I belong now
Please send me back there
6. I run through the streets
Screaming till my voice is hoarse
Somebody save me
Zombie Haikus

Zombies walk around,
leaving corpses on the ground,
never satisfied
Rejuvenated,
they awaken with hunger,
craving for humans
I'm loving zombies.
My boyfriend is a zombie.
I'm never afraid
Zombie cantaloupe,
So disgusting and moldy.
It will never die.
I wake up hungry.
It takes me hours to move.
I am a zombie.

Zombie Haiku

They can hunt you down
They also love drinking blood
But I still love them
Watch out, here they come
They are going to eat up
Hurry and go hide
I love green zombies
There are some that are ugly
But they are still cool
Zombie Haikus

Darkness engulfs land
They know it is time to feast
The living dead wake
I saw them grab her
Saw them disembody her
I know I am next

Love Poem Contest 2006
The library held a love poem contest for teen poets in February of 2006. You can read all of the entries below. The winning poem was submitted by Mark K.
Broken Promise - by Warren R.
Here I am again... it has been three years
The sight of your plain gravestone still brings tears
Hand set upon the worn stone, I regret
Making that one promise before you left
Remember that day in the hospital?
We were in that room... cold, white, clean and small
We spoke thinking nothing wrong will occur
Known not that you will stay with me for sure
Knowing before me, you turn with eyes sad
Gazed into my eyes; fear began to add
You had me promise, with your final breath
And then I watched you convulse to your death
The promise drawn out was to continue
To live happily and to forget you
Be happy? That much is easier said
And to forget you is blasphemy read
Today before you I am a dark shell
The shadow of the man you knew so well
The good side of me died with you tha tday
Leaving the empty silhouette to stay
Please love... please forgive my dark, horrid sin!
I held true dearly, yet I could not win
I could not live happily, nor forget
The promise I've broken with much regret
I promise this, though, with all my heart
I will visit constantly; today's the start
There is one final promise I make, too
Death cannot ever stop my love for you
Cliché of Love - by Sarah C.
I will love you when hell freezes over.
When the end of time has come and gone,
I will still want to feel your arms around me
If the box of chocolates is not appetizing
or when the bed of roses pricks you with its thorns,
I want to be there to console you
If love's first kiss is unsuccessful
and the glass slipper is a bit tight
I will try again and not give up
Even though sometimes you walk on thin ice,
the grass never seems greener on the other side.
You are like the pot of gold at the end of love's
rainbow
Even if you didn't climb every mountain,
or sail every sea
I still would know that you were there
For me to always be, my Prince Charming
Faded Love - by Amina A.
I think of you when I'm awake
I dream of you when I'm asleep
I wish that I could just be with you
every minute of every day
Wouldn't it be so sweet
to be together forever?
If only that was possible
and you didn't disappear
I miss you more and more
every day I shed a tear
I wait for you to come back to me
but you're just never near
I wonder what happened to you
and why you left me all alone
What did I do wrong?
To make you carry along
I hate you for just leaving
without a notice or sign
After three years I find out
you've resigned on life
I hope you rest in peace
I hope you know
I have always loved you
and I miss you so
Happiness Tears - by Jaclyn G.
Pink balloons,
Red velvet attire,
Guys in suits,
Just waiting to admire.
Corsages and roses all around,
While the music made a slow-dancing sound.
Heart-shaped cookies
And tropical punch
Guys giving roses
All in a bunch
She stands alone in the corner
Bobbing her head to the tune
Hoping her lover boy
Will come in soon...
She stands alone watching her friends dance
Just
waiting,
waiting,
waiting for her chance...
A light kiss on the cheek
That's all she will need
And she will give up most of her greed
Then she receives it
That kiss on her cheek
She could only smile
And dare not speak
Then she felt a tear
Run down her face
While a hand took hers
Lined in lace
she felt like she was floating
Atop a pink sky
As she forgot all about his
"little white lie"
She was happy for once
Out of all of her years
And for once she cried
Happiness Tears
I Guess I Owe You - by Ashley G.
I always enjoyed
watching you from the sidelines,
the audience,
and the crowded mosh-pits.
The shiny acoustic guitar
that you always held on to
so dearly
used to make my
abdomen convulse
and my chest cavity respire.
And the way
the lights reflected off your hands
always looked like summer
across the wooden-floored stage.
Every now and then
I pretended that you were singing to me
directly into my ears
and every verse ended with my name.
So I put you on repeat
and played that concert in my mind
(over and over again)
because you take me away from everything,
to a place where I belong,
where it's always summer,
and we create symphonies
for the entire world.
I'll Be - by Mark K.
Who is it that you need me to be
Just picture your life with the man of your dreams
Just close your eyes and tell me what you see
Make me the man that you need me to be
I can be the one to walk you in the sand
Shyly building the courage to hold your hand
Slowly giving you the kiss that takes you from the world
Doing all in my power just to call you my girl
Or I can be the one your parents hate
Pick you up on my bike for our first date
Take you to the country with a six pack of beer
And I'll show you why life's nothing to fear
I can be your sugar daddy and buy you the world
Give you the life you've dreamed of, as a girl
You can be the queen next to my throne
Fingers iced with all kinds of stone
I can be the man our kids call dad
The one they'll come to when they've been bad
Provider of food and piggyback rides
Even the tickle monster attacking their sides
So tell me now, who shall I be
What kind of man do you want from me
Tell me who it is from me you see
Tell me the man that I must be
I'm Sorry - by Lauren G.
Our love together was like a rollercoaster
When we bought the tickets
We knew what we were in for
And willingly boarded the ride
As the relationship began its steep climb
Our stomachs became jumbly
Before we reached the top,
We took an ocean-sized gasp
As we looked at the distance we had traveled
As the rickety car peered over the edge,
We prepared for an overwhelming excitement and terror
The car thrust forward
As the wind flew through our bushy hair
After the excitement of the downhill fall had subsided,
We were thrust into a topsy-turvy spiral
And then hung upside-down, our faces turning red
As the blood seeped into our heads
As the end drew near,
Although you begged to go again,
I quickly departed the car
Taking one last glance at your angelic exterior
As I saw a glistening tear
Skid down your cheek,
I was sorry that I had stomped your heart
But although the ride was short,
I enjoyed every minute
Love - by Stephanie L.
Love means nothing to me
It flew right out the door
I waited for a long time
But I'm not waiting anymore
I gave love a chance once
But I was sadly mistaken
I gave away my heart once
And it ended up breakin'
So love is just a memory
Like a dream, it is not real
Love is not a give away
Love is how you feel
Love means nothing to me
But that might not be true
I'd really hate to say it but...
I fell in love with you
Love Poem - by Ryan B.
What color is love?
Is it red like the rose petals building a trail for us to follow?
Is it orange like the smoldering flames, heating our bodies?
Is it yellow like the sunrise as I gaze at it in your eyes?
Is it green like your glove, the one I hold to comfort you?
Is it blue like the ocean when we listen to the waves?
Or purple like the blouse you wore on our first date?
Love is not a color but a portrait utilizing every shade possible.
Love Story - by Mary G.
What did I see before you came?
A world of gray
And utterly drained
Numb and untested was my heart
Crying for warmth
Torn apart
Suddenly, you were by my side
A splash of sunlight
In joy I cried
Here the dream had begun
A touch, a kiss
My heart was won
And yet adventures called you 'way
A world of peril
That darkened my day
Your milky breath upon my cheek
A parting kiss on our lips
Then off you were, a quest to seek
On and on the days did roll
Waves upon the endless sand
I watched for you upon the kn oll
During my vigilance you returned
And flew into my waiting arms
Our renewed passion forever burned
My Love - by Taylor P.
You are the one that makes my day,
the one that heals my pain.
I love you so much,
I give you my body, my heart, and my soul!
You're the one that I wake up and call,
and when I hear your voice I have no pain at all!
When you call me baby it makes me smile!
That's nothing I have ever had before,
and I am glad you are the one that makes me feel that way.
I sit there and think,
you should have left me many of times,
I lied, I made you cry, I had you tell my mom a lie.
But I am glad you didn't, because I don't want to cry.
I give you pain,
and I am ashamed,
you give me pain,
but you're the one I blame.
No matter what my mom, your friends, and my friends put us through,
will be together forever,
because I love you and you love me too!!!!!!
Valentine - by Elise M.
We took a chance and risked our hearts,
We must have been hit by Cupid's darts.
Though I long for you when you're not around,
My feet are always ready to float from the ground.
As our flowers grow we love each other more,
We learn how to cope when the other is sore.
If you begin to wilt, I'll come hold you tight,
Hold onto my embrace in the shining warm sunlight.
After we vanished the fear of red roses is tattered,
It prevents our love from ever being shattered.
So as I hold out the red rose that is mine,
I'll softly say, "I love you, be my Valentine."
Valentines Day - by Jessica M.
Hard to breathe.
Feels like floating.
So full of love,
My heart is exploding.
Mouth is dry.
Hands are shaking.
My heart is yours for the taking.
Acting weird.
Not myself.
Dancing around like a Keebler elf.
Crazy butterflies,
Flying all around inside.
What is this feeling,
I can't seem to hide?
A side effect.
Of sucking my stomach in too tight.
No, I'm pretty sure, it's neither of those,
I think it's something bigger,
I need to expose.
I just wanted to say,
Happy Valentines Day!
heart takes and line breaks - by Kelly B.
another line drifts off the page because i have no sense when it comes to centering things
words lines priorities life
you name it
a wrinkled page tells the story
of how we met
awkward and young
sunburned on our cheeks
beacuse that's what summer means
when you're young and awkward
a little star universe fills the margins when i'm at a loss for words
love words
and kiss words
and shh don't wake the others words
words that don't mean anything
when taken out of context
a line break is thrown in somewhere between the third and fourth stanza
because that's where my heart weakens
and my insides heave to catch a breath
and learn what break feels like
